Abstract Architecture is the mother of all arts and the most related art to human being. This is because architecture represents the various forms of human life. So, the architectural practices must provide the appropriate functional spaces to satisfy the required activity. The architectural space is considered an essential tool to get the user to the desired effect. In order to analyze the architectural space and its components, it is essential to refer to the related engineering levels including building materials, structural systems, spatial proportions, masses, openings, etc., and to study the impact of all of these levels on forming the architectural space and its relations with the rest of spaces in the same mass. This is because the architectural space is achieved by the provision of appropriate building materials, using them for the formation of buildings in a balanced and coordinated masses, in addition to strengthening the space with functionally and aesthetically appropriate structures in order to establish a balanced and efficient structural system in the formation of spaces . This research discusses the contemporary building materials and structural systems and their functional and aesthetic impact on the architectural spaces. Thus, this study aims at introducing these contemporary materials and systems and highlighting their functional and aesthetic impact on the architectural spaces. The research problem is to answer the following question: "Did the contemporary building materials and structural systems affect the architectural space in general and its users in specific and what is the role of these materials and systems in improving the quality of the architectural space and therefore its success or failure?" The research hypothesis is based on the null answer to this question. To achieve the objectives of the study the study adopted the descriptive analytical approach in tackling the subject, and used the questionnaire and interview as research tools for data collection. The study concluded a set of results. Among the most important ones is the notion that the contemporary construction materials and systems are considered an essential part of the successful architectural design. There are many factors influencing the selection of these systems and materials. The functional and aesthetic factors are among the most important factors in this regard. The integration between the structural and architectural systems is essential to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of the space and improve its aesthetic value. As for the recommendations, they include the necessity to carry out further studies that discusses the contemporary construction systems and materials, and their relationship with the internal and external spaces. In this context, it is essential to understand the role of these systems and materials the creation of successful and efficient architectural spaces. There is a need here to consider the psychological, environmental and behavioral dimensions when choosing construction materials for interior spaces due to their great influence on the mode and behavior of the space occupants.
