ملخص الدراسة:

Residential buildings constitute the majority of architectural heritage remaining in Gaza city; they refer to the Ottomans period of the Islamic history in Palestine. This study focuses on this type of buildings because of its importance; in addition to the fact that it is the most vulnerable to threats which affect its survival as part of the architectural heritage in Gaza city. The paper presents information on the number, locations of those buildings and their general conditions, which was obtained from a field study took place in the different districts of Gaza. It also identifies the dangers faced by those buildings, such as demolishing, vandalism and misuse, in addition to other problems that increase the challenges for preservation. The study showed the obstacles facing the operations to maintain them and the degree of their owners' awareness of their importance as cultural symbols of the Palestinian people. This information was identified through a questionnaire aimed at the owners and residents of these buildings as the direct beneficiaries, who can decided on any changes required. The study concludes that there are imminent dangers of such buildings that require immediate intervention and real treatment from all official bodies to preserve them and ensure their survival.
