ملخص الدراسة:

This paper studies elegy poetry in the Mamlouk and Ottoman periods. It attempts to explore aesthetic features in both ages in order to take the place it deserves in the canon of elegy poetry. Moreover, this paper seeks to shed light on elegy poetry in both eras to correct some misconceptions posed by western anti-Arab/Islam critics. The study is divided into four sections: the first focuses on lamentation of cities poetry in the Mamlouk era; the second on the same genre in the Ottoman; the third on lamentation of leaders and statesmen poetry in the Mamlouk era; the fourth on the same genre in the ottoman era. The two ages are successively studied to show the excellence of elegy poetry in both eras.
