ملخص الدراسة:

This study aimed to identify the most prevalent freelancing characteristics among ICT freelancers in the Gaza Strip. It also aimed to examine the impact of the work characteristics (Autonomy, Skill Variety, Task Identity, Task Significance, and feedback) on both motivation and job satisfaction of freelancers. The study followed descriptive and analytical approaches and collected data through self-administered questionnaire. It was implemented on a sample of 116 ICT freelancers in the Gaza Strip targeted through surveying relevant websites. Data were analyzed through appropriate descriptive and parametric statistical tests. The findings showed that nearly three quarters of ICT freelancers in Gaza Strip work on complete tasks/projects and half of them are fully dedicated to freelancing and half of them earn less than 500$ monthly. The findings also showed that one third of ICT freelancers work for more than 40hrs weekly, two thirds of them work from home, and more than half practice freelancing through dedicated internet platforms. The findings also showed that there is a positive and significant relationship between work characteristics and both motivation and job satisfaction among ICT freelancers. In addition, regression analysis results showed that three work characteristics (Task Significance, feedback, and Task Identity) affect significantly ICT freelancers’ motivation and both (feedback and Task Significance) affect significantly their job satisfaction. The study highlighted the importance of providing a supporting environment for freelancers and activating the role of academic instructions and ICT incubators in sustaining the culture and practices of freelancing. The study also advised freelancers to gain more knowledge and widen their pools of soft and technical skills.
