ملخص الدراسة:
Abstract This study aims to identify how the Palestinian journalists use the social media apps on their smartphones, the reasons for that and the expected results. The study is a descriptive study that uses the survey method, in which some methods of the media practice have been surveyed. The researcher also used the uses and gratifications theory and collected the data using the investigative survey and the personal interview tools that have been distributed to a random sample of 376 Palestinian journalists located all over the country from the date of 03/09/2016 till 23/10 / 2016. Results: 95.4% of the study community are using the Facebook app, which make it the most used app, then WhatsApp by 92.6%, then YouTube by 64.8%. 94.3% of social media apps’ users via smartphones aim to receive news, followed by 68.3% use it for chatting with friends. 68.3% of social media app’s users via smartphones get more knowledge with of news, followed by 60.4% of users became more social, and 45.6% of them felt more with safety. Recommendations: The Palestinian journalists need to consolidate their relation with the audience of the social media apps to enrich their resources, so they can validate the news and the information. Make training courses for the Palestinian journalists on how the use the social media apps and how to validate the content. Undertake researches and special studies on how the Palestinian journalists use the social media apps and on the best way to take advantage of it.
