ملخص الدراسة:

This study aims to identify the status of press freedoms and its impact on the Palestinian journalists. This is a descriptive study based on a survey. In this regard, the study used the method of practice survey, and studied the mutual relationship between the related variables including the correlation between these variables. The study is based on the theory of freedom and contacting person. Data were collected using the tools of induction survey and in-depth interview. The study distributed a questionnaire to a stratified random sample that included 328 sampling unit of the practicing Palestinian journalists. This occurred in the period between the 15th of October and the 30th of November 2016. The study also carried out interviews with 27 experts in the period between the 4th of August 2016 and the 20th of February 2017. The study concluded a set of results, as follows: The surveyed Palestinian journalists in the study sample classified the Israeli occupation as the first obstacle among the political, economic and social obstacles that affect press freedom in Palestine. 95.40% of the sample agreed on that, which shows a very high agreement level. The surveyed Palestinian journalists in the study sample confirmed that 144 press organizations in which they work experienced some sort of violation. This has affected 146 journalists of them personally. The targeted Palestinian journalists assessed the status of press freedom in Palestine as “poor”, with a general relative weight of 47.0%. Based on these results, the study reached a set of recommendations, including: To introduce the Palestinian journalists to their rights, the restrictions imposed over them, and the most important obstacles that stand in the face of press freedoms. This is achievable through training or special bulletins and guides that could be distributed to them immediately after their graduation. These issues should be examined prior granting them a certificate to practice the profession. There is a need to educate and obligate the security forces to respect the law implications and journalists rights during their professional practice in the field. They should be treated according to the requirements of the law and its determinants. The required action should be taken to stop or limit violations against journalists and their organizations. This is achievable through the unity of the Palestinian journalism organizations on professional basis, and monitoring, documenting, and exposing any violations in this regard.
