ملخص الدراسة:

The study aimed to identify effectiveness of a computerized program based on the preventive method in developing the orthographic skills among second graders in Gaza. The study problem was stated in the following main question: -What is the effectiveness of a computerized program based on the preventive method in developing the orthographic skills among second graders? Derived from this main question were the following sub-questions: What are the orthographic skills that should be developed among second graders? What is the nature of the proposed program based on the preventive method for the development of orthographic skills among second graders? Are there statistically significant differences at the level of significance (α ≤ 0.05) in the posttest between the mean scores of students in the control group and those of their counterparts in the experimental group? Can a computerized program based on the preventive method in developing the orthographic skills be effective according to Blakes' Modified Gain Ratio? To answer the third and the fourth questions, the following hypotheses were generated: - There are no statistically significant differences at the significance level of (α ≤ 0.05) in the posttest between the mean scores of students in the control group and those of their counterparts in the experimental group. - There is no effectiveness of a computerized program based on the preventive method in developing the orthographic skills according to Blakes' Modified Gain Ratio. In this study, the researcher used the quasi-experimental approach. The study population consisted of the all the second graders in United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) in Gaza Governorate schools in the scholastic year (2016-2017). The study sample consisted of (48) male and female second graders from the Co-Beach School (C) for Refugees. The sample was randomly assigned to two groups, one experimental consisting of (24) male and female students and the other control consisting of (24) male and female students. The researcher designed a computerized program based on the preventive method in developing orthographic skills and then applied it to the experimental group three periods a week for 4 weeks. Then both the control and experimental groups took the orthographic skills test. The researcher used the t-test for two independent samples to measure the differences between the means of the achievement of the two groups. The results revealed the following: - There were statistically significant differences at the significance level (α = 0.05) in the posttest between the mean scores of the students in the control group and those of their counterparts in the experimental group in favor of the experimental group. - There is effectiveness of a computerized program based on the preventive method in developing the orthographic skills according to Blakes' Modified Gain Ratio. The study recommended that it is necessary that computerized programs should be used in teaching and developing the different Arabic language skills and that the preventive method should be used in developing the orthographic skills among low elementary stage students. One of the study suggestions was that a similar experimental studies should implemented to investigate the effectiveness of using modern methods in the development of the Arabic language skills.
