ملخص الدراسة:

The study aimed at identifying the effectiveness of a program aimed at modifying some parental erroneous methods used by mothers while raising up their children in the Gaza Strip. It also at finding out the differences between the mean scores of the experimental group on the pre and post measurement of the methods of parental treatment after the application of the program as well as the differences between the mean scores of the experimental group and those of the control one in parental treatment methods in the post measurement following the application of the program. Study sample: The study sample consisted of (26) of those mothers whose scores on the scale of erroneous parental treatment methods were the highest. Those mother were divided into two equivalent groups: the first group was an experimental one consisting of (13) mothers and the other a control one consisting of another (13) mothers. Study tools: The researcher used the experimental approach and employed the following tools: a parental treatment methods scale and a cognitive behavioral counseling program, both of which were designed by the researcher. Study findings: The study found the following: There were statistically significant differences at the level of (α ≤ 0.01) in the scores of the experimental group between the pre and post applications in all dimensions of the parental treatment methods scale and the total score of the scale. There were statistically significant differences at the level of (α ≤ 0.01) between the scores of the experimental group and those of the control one in all the dimensions of the parental treatment methods scale and the total score of the scale in its post application. Study recommendations: The study recommended the following: Using counseling and therapeutic programs based on the cognitive-behavioral theory to improve erroneous educational methods among parents. Preparing a counseling guide based on the cognitive behavioral theory to raise mothers’ and fathers’ awareness toward the upbringing of their children using proper parental treatment methods.
