ملخص الدراسة:

This study examined the development of the Israeli security mentality between 1948-1982, and highlighted the importance of various fixed and changing factors in this regard such as religion, history, ideology, geography, economics and politics. These factors served as the intellectual frameworks in which this mentality was formed. This study also examined the most important hypotheses that contributed to the formation of the principles of the Israeli security mentality. This includes the hypotheses of existential threat, inequality, and inevitability of the conflict. The study revealed the importance of the military and political elite in forming the principles of the Israeli security mentality, especially the role of Prime Minister David Ben-Gurion. The study traced the most important stages of the development of this security mentality represented in the Israeli wars in the region from 1948 to 1982. This includes five wars, which formed a practical field examination of the Israeli security principles. These wars have clearly caused the most important changes and developments in the context of the transition from the military attacks strategy to the defensive strategy. This particularly was a main reason for the failure that hit the Israeli security mentality in the 1973 Arab-Israeli War. The study highlighted the most important factors and events that influenced the development of the Israeli security mentality since its emergence until 1982. This leaded to realizing the most important points of weakness and strength that characterized this mentality, which were realized in 1967 and 1973 wars. The study reached the conclusion that there are many factors and influences that contributed to the formation of the Israeli security mentality. The strategic depth and existential threatening are among the most important ones in this regard. The study also found that the principles of this mentality are basically the strength aspects that have been founded to confront the constituent deadly weaknesses that exist in the Israeli entity. The most important recommendation of the study is the need to re-read the historical events related to the 1967 and 1973 wars in the light of the Hebrew specialized documents in these events, whose publication has been allowed recently.
